Effective ways to stop acne in its tracks!

There are MANY products out there that promise to tackle acne but you know what really works in saying goodbye to acne for good? A consistent (and effective) skincare routine. If you’re ready to put in a little hard work to achieve the glowing, clear skin, read on for these simple steps to follow.

STEP 1: CLEANSE THOROUGHLY

If you don’t already know, dirt, makeup, oils, and even contact from your fingers/makeup brushes can all create the perfect breeding ground for bacteria on your face. And there’s no easier way keep your pores free from nasty buildup is a good cleanse in the morning and night.

What’s better than a good ol’ cleanse? Double cleanse! Exactly as what its name suggests, doing it twice will ensure all makeup, dirt and oil are thoroughly removed.

To start off on double cleansing, I like to first clean off my makeup with an oil-based  makeup remover like Lemon Quartz Ultra Facial Cleansing Oil which gently melts away makeup without drying out the skin.

Follow up with a facial cleanser that doesn’t contain SLS, this ensures that your skin isn’t stripped of its natural oils. I love Skin Gym Deep Cleansing Gel which not only deep cleans, it is also a thermal gel cleanser which self-activates upon contact with damp skin, heating up to give a facial sauna effect to stimulate blood circulation and detoxify your skin.

STEP 2: EXFOLIATE

When excess build-up manages to get deep into pores, acne-promoting bacteria quickly ensues, and this is hard to remove just by cleansing alone.

Give you skin a good exfoliation a few times a week to prevent this process and keep skin clean from future breakouts.

There are two types of exfoliators, a physical exfoliator (with beads in them to physically scrub the face) and there’s the chemical exfoliator (which contains acids that interact with your skin to remove dead skin cells).

With acne skin, scrubbing can irritate breakouts and prevent them from healing properly, it’s best to opt for a chemical exfoliator such as Andalou Naturals Gylcolic Mask which gently dissolves dull, dry skin cells.

STEP 3: SUPERCHARGE WITH FAST ACTING SERUMS

I love serums for the concentrated strains of active ingredients that work hard to treat the skincare concern at hand. In this case with acne, Sapphire Balancing Clarity Serum is a lifesaver for my acne.

A powerful multitasker, this serum targets blemishes, breakouts, pigmentation and redness. It also contains Azelaic Acid, known to help brighten skin and lighten blemishes with regular use. All these without drying out my skin.

STEP 4: MOISTURISE

Just because you’re tackling oily skin doesn’t mean you should skip on moisturiser. When skin is well hydrated, different from being oily, it is in a healthy state and is better able to fight breakouts, prevent bacteria growth and speed up the healing process of skin.

Opt for a lightweight, water-based hydrator like Luminizing II Replenishing and Moisturizing Cream, a non-comedogenic formula that hydrates skin while boosting skin health and resilience.

STEP 5: SPOT-TREAT BREAKOUTS

While you may be diligent with Steps 1-4, anything ranging from weather, stress and hormones and throw your skin off balance and trigger breakouts every now and then. It helps to be prepared and have a spot treatment available for such emergencies.

Stop blemishes in their tracks with Mario Badescu’s Drying Lotion that will dry out zits with just a drop of this potent lotion. Visible results can be seen overnight and is a definite must-have in everyone’s beauty first-aid box.
