Skincare tips Dos and Don’ts while on Circuit Breaker

Isn’t it true that working from home now seems to have become the new normal, and as with all changes, there are bound to be adjustments to be made.

Getting used to working in the comfort of our homes, PJs and sans makeup is one thing. But neglecting to take care of yourself is a whole other aspect we definitely should not be compromising on.

While we may not be dressing up or putting on makeup, the very least we all can do is take care of the fundamentals, namely our skin. Here are some vital dos and don’ts to see you through circuit breaker and hopefully beyond, for good skin you can thank us for.

DO wear SPF

If you think you should only wear SPF when you’re out, I’m sorry to break it to you that you’re wrong.

While UVB rays are responsible for burning and tanning and are filtered out by clouds and windows, UVA rays on the other hand, responsible for sun damage, can still penetrate if you’re working by a window or taking daily walks, ie you could still be exposed to UVA rays even when working from home.  To play it safe, it’s good to use broad-spectrum sunscreen even when at home to prevent incidental sun exposure that is not only damaging to the skin, it can also speed up aging. We definitely don’t need that!

DO De-clutter

With a little more time on your hands these days, why not consider a decluttering of your makeup products that are detrimental to your skin. Think heavy, oily foundations and even primers which are designed to fill the skin’s nooks and crannies to give you a flawless finish. This usually entails congested pores and breakouts. Perhaps it’s down to the many zoom conferences you have to be on or just that makeup makes you feel good, hence you’re still choosing to wear makeup while on circuit-breaker mode. But if you do, this a great time to shun cream-based makeup products which could clog pores.

DO adopt new habits

This is a great time to put in action all those beauty habits you always told yourself you should try but never really had the time nor motivation to do so. Such as drinking 8 glasses of water a day, or starting your mornings with a glass of lemon water for a boost of Vitamin C and hydration.

Or even making double cleansing a new-found habit of yours? Starting off with an oil based cleanser followed by a water based cleanser, this all essential step in anyone’s skincare routine not only deep cleanses skin of all impurities, pollutants and dirt, it also helps to prep skin for all the other good skincare products you want to infuse your skin with.

DON’T say no to antioxidants

Don’t be fooled into thinking that just because we’re outside less that we should not be incorporating antioxidants into our skincare regime. Indoor pollution can be 100 times higher than outdoor pollution and you need to be doing all you can to fight off all those nasty free radical damage that can age your skin faster than you can say WRINKLES. One common antioxidant that is easy to find is Vitamin C, which not only combats aging, it also reduces UV damage for brighter skin.
