You may have heard about the recent restrictions on lockdown in Singapore, including suspending personalized services that requires you to remove your mask, such as facials and saunas.

Relax as we break down what it is we love about facials and how you can replicate it in your very own home, you won’t even be missing your regular spa.

#1 Atmosphere

Create a relaxing atmosphere for yourself. Be it in your bedroom or living room, a few simple touches can go a long way. Dim the lights, light your favourite scented candle, pour yourself a glass of wine (or two), put on relaxing music and get yourself ready to indulge in your wholly customized environment to lull you into a state of bliss. Best of all you can have a facial that’s as long as you want it to be.

#2 Cleanse

Get your skin prepped and well cleaned to get your facial off to a good start.

If you’ve never double cleansed, now’s a good time to spend a little more time cleaning your face. Start off with an oil-based cleanser to get rid of dirt and impurities. Wash for at least 1 minute, be sure you go over the entire face area and not miss a spot.

Follow with a water-based cleanser and if you have a facial brush, don’t be shy to use it. Use it gently as move it in circular motions. This isn’t an exfoliating step so go easy with the brush. The aim here is to offer a deeper cleanse than the previous cleansing step.

#3 Exfoliate

IF you’re dreaming of glowing, radiant skin, make exfoliation your BFF. Great for melting away dead skin cells to reveal brighter, smoother skin, exfoliation is a key step not to be missed.

Try using a chemical or enzyme exfoliator, the kind you would leave on for 10-15 minutes. These types of exfoliators are hard little workers to reduce uneven skin tone, minimize pores and enhance glow. And, they’re suitable for all skin types!

#4 Treatment mask

What’s a facial without a mask right? Find one that addresses your concerns such as dry skin, acne prone skin, or aging skin. There’s a mask for everyone.

While trying to recreate your spa experience at home, don’t just slap on the mask. Spend a few minutes trying to massage the mask into your skin before leaving it to sit for 15-20 minutes and simply pass the time by watching your favourite show on Netflix.

#5 Moisturise

Don’t forget to end off your facial with a moisturizer that is suited for your skin type. Add a few drops of your favourite serum to your moisturizer for added glow and to lock in hydration.

If you have a roller or a gua sha, this is a great time to use it after over your face for an added spa-like experience.

#6 Skip extractions

While many of us love to have our dirt extracted during a facial, this is best left to the experts. Try not to do this at home as it could worsen your bump and even cause an infection.
