Skincare essentials for your next flight out!
/Yay to reopened borders and to travel becoming the norm again. Everyone I know has booked their next flight out for that long-awaited holiday. While we’re all excited about travelling again, getting on a flight wreak havoc on your skin. Think low humidity, dry cabins and recycled air, all of which aren’t your skin’s best friends. Not only can these culminate in dehydrated skin, it can increase oil production and worsen acne no matter your skin type. All’s not lost though and here’s what you can do to keep your skin in tip top shape, before, during and after your flight! You’re welcome.
Before your flight
Before your flight, you want to start thinking about how you can give your skin some TLC. Start hydrating and drinking lots of water prior a flight to enhance the moisture levels in your skin. Make sure that skin is well cleansed and put through your entire skincare routine. It’s recommended to apply moisturiser, to keep hydration up, and also not scrimp on sunscreen, especially if you’re flying in the day, as UV rays can still penetrate the windows and be harmful to your skin.

During the flight
What you eat or not eat can make a difference to how your skin looks and feel during the flight. Avoid salty foods if you can to prevent puffiness.
If skin is feeling dry or tight during the flight, don’t hesitate to whip out a hydrating sheet mask. If you are worried that it’s going to bring on too much unwanted attention to yourself, you can always opt to have a facial mist on standby, making for easy application with just a few spritzes while locking in moisture. A serum or moisturiser rich in hyaluronic acid should be within easy reach too to keep skin well hydrated.

After the flight
Since your skin has already been put through the mill during the flight, it’s best to give your skin a good clean once you can after you have landed. A good moisturiser is a must to bring up hydration levels and be sure to keep up with your regular skincare routine during your travels, paying special attention to how your skin is feeling especially if you’re travelling to somewhere with an entirely different climate from where you came from.
Don’t skip on exfoliating your skin to keep skin clear and to help remove clogs, dirt and debris. Bring along a product with salicylic acid to help keep skin in check and to mitigate chances of any breakouts.
