The ultimate skincare routine for the modern-age gentleman
/For many men out there, a skincare routine for them looks like a bar of soap, the same bar they use to wash their hair and bodies with. So it may come as a shock to our male counterparts when they’re told there’s actually more to skincare than using some soap.
Truth be told, skincare need not be complicated to be good. A simple skincare regimen that covers the essentials is good enough for the modern-age gentleman.
Step 1: Cleanse
Undoubtedly, cleansing is the most important daily maintenance step in everyone’s skincare routine, not just for men. Your skin accumulates a buildup of dirt, bacteria, sebum and environmental pollutants over the course of a day and a good cleansing helps to remove this, which in turn prevents breakouts and clogged pores.
Simply wash your face with a suitable cleanser first thing in the morning and in the evening when you get home. It’s important to use a cleaner that’s suited for your skin type. There are different cleaners to address oily skin, dry skin and normal skin.
Step 2: Serums
Lightweight and easy to apply, serums are a great addition to any skincare routine. They help to address skincare concerns such as acne or uneven skin tone even when used in small doses. Simply apply a few drops after you have cleaned your face in Step 1.

Step 3: Moisturise
Moisturising isn’t just for dry skin types. It helps to firm up the skin and to replace lost nutrients and moisture. The moisturizer also helps to form a protective barrier on the skin, preventing dirt from clogging your pores.
If you have oily skin, don’t think for a minute you can skip this step. Using the right kind of your moisturizer for oily skin type can help to keep oil production in check and lessen the chances of outbreaks. Simply look for lightweight moisturisers that won’t feel too ‘heavy’ on your skin or clog pores.
Step 4: Sunscreen
You know sunscreen is essential for protecting your skin from sun damage but they should not be limited to use only at the beach or by the pool. Your skin is exposed to the sun too when you are taking a walk or having a jog outdoors or working indoors.
Make sunscreen a part of your daily skincare regimen to protect your skin from UV damage which is responsible for speeding up the ageing process of your skin. Choose sunscreen that has at least SPF 30 and offers broad spectrum sun protection.

Step 5: Exfoliate
Exfoliating helps to get rid of dead skin cells, dirt and sebum from the skin. It also helps to unclog deep lying impurities in the skin, preventing skin problems such as blackheads and pimples from forming.
Exfoliation is an often overlooked aspect of skincare and is imperative for good skin health. Aim to exfoliate your skin once or twice a week but be sure not to scrub your skin too hard. 30 seconds in circular motions around the face would do the trick.
